This painting is in response to the burial of my beloved Shao (feline companion of 18+years). I lay her on a soft blanket wrapped in my shirt, and wept and wailed and prayed that God would forgive me if taking her life during her time of pain had been wrong, or if in fact it was lack of courage to do it with less emotion that had been wrong, for if we have more vulnerable others in our care then perhaps it is in fact our duty to keep them from suffering, and our own feelings should be put aside completely. I don't claim to know the Truth. But in that moment when I couldn't comprehend never laying eyes on her perfect form ever again and I wanted to dig her body back up, I instead let my heart break, and so I say I now have many hearts. And when I look at this beautiful Earth and all of her creatures, each is one of my hearts, for I feel a duty to protect them, as a mother for a child. And when I look at myself I see I must also protect the child inside of me. That is also my duty. This takes great courage. When we look upon a new foal as this one we see its confidence and sass. It is loved well. Like any child, we see it in them alone if they are loved well. And what of ourselves? How do we know when an adult is loved well by themselves? We see a sparkle in their eyes. A sense of mirth, cheek, and 'muchness'. We instinctively know that we mustn't cross them for they exude a certain power that they don't seem to use, but we know they could and would if required. Just like we wouldn't get between that mare and her foal. Her power is quiet, and ready. If we can take ownership of ourselves and each other so that we see each as a part of us, then maybe, just maybe we will break our own hearts before letting pain or suffering befall anyone else. In this way we just might all travel this earth in joy and 'muchness'. All my love, and I hope you enjoy my wandering
